Why this is hard

The cheapest way out isn't always the obvious one.

Some lease exit paths look cheaper until taxes, payoff restrictions, or dealer terms are included. We put those numbers in one place so you can compare them calmly.

  • Your payoff isn't your remaining payments

Ending a lease today usually means paying off the car's residual value too, so the real number can be far from what's left on your payment schedule.

  • Some leasing companies limit who can buy the car

Third-party buyout rules can rule out selling to another dealer or an online buyer, or add fees that change the math.

  • Small costs can flip the answer

Sales tax on a buyout, extra-mile charges, and lease-end fees are easy to miss and can change which option costs least.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers to what people ask first.

Can I get out of my car lease early?

Usually, yes. The common ways are returning it early, buying it out, selling or trading it to a dealer, transferring the lease, or waiting until the end. Which one costs least depends on your payoff amount, what the car is worth, and your lease's rules. Our guide to getting out of a car lease early compares them.

What is a payoff quote, and where do I get one?

It's the amount your leasing company would accept to close the lease on a given date. You can usually request one through your leasing company's website, app, or phone line. Quotes expire, so check the "good through" date. See lease payoff vs. residual value for how it differs from the number in your contract.

Is the free calculator really free?

Yes. There's no login, you don't need any documents, and nothing you enter is saved.

Do I pay again for another car, or to update my report?

Plans are a one-time payment for one lease case, so a second car is its own case and its own purchase. Within a case, updating your report with new numbers or documents is free. If you upgrade from the Lease Exit Report to Lease Exit Pro, what you paid for the Report counts toward Pro.

Do I need to upload my lease documents?

No. Your report works from the details you enter, and it tells you what's missing. Adding your payoff amount and what the car is worth lets us price every option. Your lease contract and a payoff quote turn estimates into confirmed numbers. We only ask for documents once you've chosen a plan, so you never share your lease before deciding.

What's your refund policy?

If you haven't generated your report yet, you can get a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Once a report has been generated, we refund only if something on our side went wrong, such as a report that couldn't be generated or has a calculation error. Email us with your lease case and we'll respond within 2 business days. The details, including upgrades, are in our Terms.

Will you contact my dealer or negotiate for me?

No. We don't negotiate, broker, finance, buy, or sell vehicles. We give you the numbers and a plan so you can have that conversation yourself.

How accurate are the estimates?

The free calculator uses your inputs plus a few clearly stated assumptions, and it can't see your payoff amount or early termination terms. The Lease Exit Report labels every number as confirmed or estimated, and gets more precise as you add your payoff, offers, and lease contract. Either way, treat the numbers as estimates and confirm final amounts with your leasing company before you act.
